The overall purpose of this project is to make the World Wide Web and electronically published information more accessible to people with disabilities. This will be achieved by targeting both the browser and the authoring tools used to create electronic files. Tasks can be divided into two areas:
  1. An "Accessibility Toolkit" will be developed which adds access tools and features to application programs which are used for browsing or authoring marked-up documents, and provide guidelines for making the applications friendly to external access systems. This toolkit will be implemented with at least oneSoftQuad application program.
  2. Authoring tools will be modified to prompt and guide users in making accessible documents.
The accessibility features will be integrated into highly competitive mainstream software products thereby benefiting from the improved pricing, support and upgradability of a very large consumer base. Integrationinto a mainstream application also means that users with disabilities will be able to use the same softwareas their peers without disabilities.

It is hoped that these applications will act as models for other application developers, setting a standardfor providing access to all users. The "Accessibility Toolkit" will be made available to other softwaredevelopers as a separate access and user profile utility.
